The Boy Scouts were established in 1908 by an English gentleman, Robert Baden-Powell. He was a child of the Victorian period (he was born in 1857). During this time, Medieval history was "rediscovered" and Chivalry came to be a much admired aspect of the "Good Old Days." Baden-Powell crossed his love of the outdoor life with his admiration of Chivalry to establish an institution which still teaches children values that were also valued (if not always observed) by Medieval knights.
