Jean Froissart (c. 1337-c. 1410) was a French-language chronicler, poet, diplomat, courtier, popagandist, and great fan of the chivalric tradition. His chronicle covers most of the history of western Europe during the 14th century, focussing on the Hundred Years' War, with the Black Prince as its primary hero. Although of considerable literary merit, the work lacks objectivity, has a lot of inaccuracies, and carefully omits pretty much anything not considered chivalrous. Nevertheless, a wonderful source for the sense of the times.
