The mould board plow, invented by the Slavs in the 7th century. A much more efficient device, using much less manpower and plowing formerly "difficult" ground (heavy soils) with a considerable increase in efficiency. It took until the 11th century for this new plow to become fully established in western Europe. At that point, enormous amounts of new land came under cultivation.
