Comments: -Alencon is a county in western France, only about a hundred English miles west of Paris. In Roman times a part of Gallia Lugdunensis, in the early 4th century it was overrun by the Franks and incorporated into their kingdom. Included in that part of France which became Normandy in the late 9th century, it passed to the overlordship of the English King with William the Conqueror in 1066, but was restored to French dominion by Philip II Augustus in the early 13th century, who created the county. The county is under the religious jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Rouen . There is some industry and trade in the larger towns, and the province is quite fertile.
