Comments: Chartres is a large province about 50 miles southwest of Paris. Originally a part of Roman Gaul, the area was overrun by the Franks in the 5th century and has been a part of France ever since. It is under the religious authority of the Archbishop of Sens . There is a good deal of commerce in the province, and many pilgrims make their way to the great cathedral at Chartres town, but the principal mainstay of the life is agriculture.
