Comments: Guise is a duchy in northern France, hard by the frontier of the Empire. Originally a part of Gallia Belgica, it passed to the Franks upon the fall of Rome in the 5th century, later becoming a county in Carolingian times and then a duchy. Ecclesiastical authority is vested in the Prince-Bishop of Cambria , who is in turn subject to the Archbishop of Reims. There is a good deal of commerce in the duchy, and the manufacture of woolen cloth and lace, and the fields are rather fertile.
