Comments: Juliers, or Julich, lies in the Rhenish highlands, to the east of Liege. Originally a part of Germania Inferior, it was overrun by the Franks in the 5th century, becoming for a time the heart of Charlemagne's Empire, before ultimately a part of the East Frankish Duchy of Lothringia in the 10th century. It is part of the Archiepiscopal province of Cologne. There is some commerce here, and a little industry, but the province is mostly agricultural.
