Draft, 5/4/98
Overview:

If the French or English king is removed by parlementry vote and replaced by his counterpart, the "Joan of Arc" phase is in effect following the installation of the conquering king,. The conquering king must hold the Crown for two to four years. The number is random and is only known when the Sysop declares the conquered nation has one final vote for the conquering King to be removed. Each year, the Herald enters the proposition into Parlement to remove the conquering king. For the final vote, combat is turned off until the results are known.

Special Rules of the Joan of Arc Phase:

Once the French or English king is replaced by his rival king, the Crown Prince is still in play as the "people's heir". If the French King is replaced, the French CP gets double the Feudal Levy once each year. The Crown Prince of the conquered kingdom receives all 9 top line stats and the equivalent of the Church Tax (one a year) for the duration of the Joan of Arc period. The Church Tax equivalent is not the Church Tax, but an equal sum representing voluntary patriotic contributions from the people.  The Joan of Arc phase ends with either the removal of the conquering king or the defeat of the Crown Prince.

The succession from the conquered king to the conquering king is carried out normally.   With one exception, the ancestoral ownership rights of the capital city, London or Paris, are not transfered to the conquering king but to the Crown Prince of the conquered kingdom.  All other ancestoral ownership rights are transfered to the conquering king.  Neither the conquering king nor the Crown Prince receives BCCI loans, the Church Tax, or the Archbishops Tax for the conquered kingdom.

If the Crown Prince captures at least one fief in a season, he can put the entire province containing that fief into ancestoral rebellion the following season. If he captures a fief in more than one province, the Crown Prince may choose which of the provinces will erupt in ancestoral rebellion. Until the Joan of Arc phase is automated, the Crown Prince will inform the Sysop by private message of the province he wishes to place into rebellion. (OPTIONAL:  Fiefs in the rebellious province will not go into ancestoral rebellion if they have a sufficiently large garrison as defined in the ancestoral rebellion section of the docs. The use of this provision will be announced by the sysop.)

The conquering king may outlaw the Crown Prince for roleplay purposes. The Crown Prince's stature is unaffected by being outlawed. However, the Crown Prince is no longer subject to royal status and protection. He may be executed and as an outlaw, he may be executed by a HYW herald.  The conquering king may also outlaw other nobles of the conquered nation, but like the Crown Prince, their stature is unaffected.

A Jeanne d'Arc (Blanche of Castle Rising) NPC will be created by the sysop with 9 Rabble Rousing, Piety Extraordinary, Charm, Devout and Leadership skills and other appropriate attributes. Her use is optional for the CP and for roleplay purposes only.

End of Joan of Arc Phase:

The Crown Prince is defeated by one of two means. The death of the Crown Prince or the failure of the parlement to remove the conquering king. If the Crown Prince dies during the Joan of Arc phase, for any reason, prior to the removal of the conquering King by Parlement, the conquered nation is defeated, the game ends, and the conquerer wins. If the conquering King is not removed by any parlement vote by the time the final vote results are known, the game is over and the conquerer wins.

The conquering king is removed if any of the votes to remove the conquering king pass parlement with over 50% of the vote, the Crown Prince will immediately be installed as king, combat is turned back on, the Joan of Arc phase ends, and the standard game resumes. There will be no second vote to elect a new king to replace the ousted conquerer. The new king retains all the improved top line stats and the NPC he received at the start of the Joan of Arc phase.  At this writing, the disposition of the fiefs and titles in the conquered kingdom which belong to the now removed conquering king remains unresolved.
