Managing Your Family and Household
You must manage your family , including the NPCs you hire as your principal servants. You play a character who is one of the 107 senior aristocrats in 14th century Europe (or at least the portions included in the game). When your character dies, you usually take on the character of your next eldest male member of your family, although players often examine stats of all family members and choose the most suitable one as their heir. There are some exception; principally the Pope, the Prince-Bishops and some of the Italian leaders (Florence, Genoa and Venice, who were elected). These characters automatically get a replacement when the current incumbent dies. The down side of this is that one cannot improve ones character by breeding superior (in characteristics and skills) heirs. But for most players, continued success in the game depends on the NPCs in your family and in your employ.
