High Officers of State


The French and English kingdoms had a fairly complex series of high offices of state, albeit that their duties often overlapped in a wholly disorganized fashion. On these tables the number next to each office indicates the relative rank, where known. Posts tagged with an asterisk (*) are usually held by residents of the appropriate shire or province.

A question mark indicates that the relative status of the post is outside the numerical rank structure in the list shown in the items below.
