Comments: Derby, or Derbyshire, is a located in the northern midlands of central England. The town itself was apparently founded by the Romans. After the Barbarian invasions it became part of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia, and later of the Danelaw, before being incorporated into England in 917. The shire is under the religious authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury . There is a good deal of mining in the shire, and some other industry, to supplement the agriculture.
