Comments: Limousin lies in the southwestern part of central France. In Celtic times the home of the Lemovices, it fell under Roman rule in the century before Christ, and passed to the Franks in the 6th century. From Carolingian times the area was part of the Duchy of Aquitaine, with Gascony and Guyenne and much else beside, passing to English overlordship in 1154, and not returning to direct French rule until the late 13th century. The province is subject to the religious authority of the Archbishop of Bourges, exercised through the Bishop of Limoges. There is a great cathedral under construction, and several other notable religious buildings in the town. The Limousin is famous for its cattle and its tapestries, and it produces a variety of agricultural produces as well.
