Comments: Salisbury is the comital title to which the earls of Wiltshire are customarily invested. Wiltshire is located in southwestern England, about 75 miles west of London. The area was originally at the heart of the territory of the Belgae, and was brought under Roman control in the 1st century A.D. The province was overrun by the West Saxons in the 6th century, and was quickly incorporated into their Kingdom of Wessex, which forms the core of England. There is a good deal of commerce in the larger towns, as well as some manufacturing, and the province is agriculturally productive.
