Comments: Foix, in southwestern France, hard against the Pyrenees. Originally a part of Gallia Narbonensis (added to the Roman Empire in 121 B.C.), it passed on the fall of the Empire to the Visigoths and then into the hands of the Kings of the Franks. For a time it was controlled by the Counts of Toulouse, and later by the Kings of Aragon. On the wrong side during the Albigensian Crusade, Foix passed to the house of Carcassone , who have used it to greatly strengthen their influence in the south of France. Foix is subject to the Ecclesiastical authority of the Archbishop of Narbonne . The region is poor, but not impoverished, and is well managed. Agriculture is the principal occupation, but there is some industry as well.
