Comments: Narbonne is a province in southeastern France, near the Pyrennes on the Mediterranean Sea. The area was the ancient core of the Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis. During the Dark Ages it was overrun successively by the Visigoths, the Saracens, and the Franks, who incorporated it into Charlemagne's Empire.
A part of France ever since, it has at times drifted into the Catalan orbit. The Archbishop of Narbonne holds Ecclesiastical authority over the province and much of the surrounding area. There is considerable commerce in the towns, and the region is fertile.
