Comments: Nottingham, a shire in central England about 75 miles south of York, was the ancient home of the Coritani. Incorporated into the Roman Empire by the late 1st century A.D., the area was overrun by the Angles during the 5th and 6th centuries, and became part of the Kingdom of Mercia.
From 878 a part of the Danelaw, Nottinghamshire was incorporated into England in the early 9th century. The province is part of the Archepiscopal province of York . There is some industry in the larger towns, as well as a little mining and foresty, but the economy is primarily agricultural, producing a variety of grains and some fine cattle.
